Shaun Williams (USA/RO; multi-instrumentalist, ethnomusicologist and documentary filmmaker)

has conducted ethnographic research in Hutsul, Ruthenian and Roma communities in Romania and Ukraine and is currently working on a doctoral dissertation focused on lăutar music in Romania.

He leads the lăutar roots project Taraful Jean Americanu and performs with the Romanian klezmer ensemble Volekh Quartet, the international klezmer band Judelman's Klezmer Kompanye, and the Greek-Turkish ensemble Rumeliko.

He has conducted Yiddish language research in Ukraine and Romania for the AHEYM project (2011-2015) and has taught music workshops at the Vilnius Yiddish Institute summer program (2015), GenerationJ (2022), and Pop Akademie Mannheim (2023).
